Navigation Training

 

We run two day navigation courses for beginners in the Peak District National Park, Snowdonia and the Shropshire Hills. On these courses, we hope to teach you the ability to follow paths and tracks and arrive safely and independently at your destination, while still enjoying your day on the hill. No previous knowledge required.

iconMap reading including symbols and contours
iconRelating the map to the ground
iconEstimate distance on both map and the ground
iconUse timing and pacing to estimate distances
iconLearn to take compass bearings and how to follow them
iconRelocation using simple techniques
iconLinear features, handrails and aiming off
iconUnderstand access rights of way

You will need normal hill walking clothes and kit (see our terms), plus, a Silva 4 Expedition Compass, local 1-25,000 map and a note book and pen.

Course ratio: 6-1 instructor

Price: £80.00 for 2 days (Non-residential, accomodation not included)
